The booster packs are going to change from A Lawless Time.

Updated: 3 days ago

Star Wars: Unlimited is set to implement changes with the release of A Lawless Time in the way booster packs are structured. The developers have listened closely to player feedback over the first two years of the game, especially since the introduction of the special Carbonite packs — and they want to make the experience of opening packs more enjoyable for all players.

What Remains the Same

Booster packs will still consist of 16 cards and will still guarantee a leader and a base, with the usual distribution of Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Legendary card types. This means that the structure for Draft and Sealed formats remains unchanged — as they are important for the gaming experience.

What Exactly Changes?

No More Black-Border Foil Cards

The biggest change is that foil cards with a regular black border will no longer be produced. This variant was considered the least interesting of all alternative versions by many players, especially since each card already has a Hyperspace and Hyperspace-foil — and often other special variants like Prestige or Organized Play promotions.

Always Hyperspace and Hyperspace-Foil in Every Pack

Starting with A Lawless Time, every booster pack will guarantee at least:

  • 1 Hyperspace card, and

  • 1 Hyperspace-foil card.

This significantly increases the chance of opening something nice — especially for Hyperspace-Common cards, which will now always be in every pack (instead of about 1 in 3). In addition to this guarantee, Hyperspace and Hyperspace-foil versions of rarer cards will also be included more frequently in packs.

Prestige Cards Can Now Appear in Regular Packs

Until now, players had to buy Carbonite packs if they wanted to open Prestige cards — but that is about to change. With A Lawless Time, approximately 1 in 18 regular booster packs may contain a non-foil Prestige variant. These come from the same collection of Prestige cards as in Carbonite packs. This way, players who only buy standard boosters will also have a better chance of getting special cards without foil.

Note: Carbonite packs remain the best place to find Prestige cards, especially the higher, foil, and serialized variants that are guaranteed to be included.

Adjustments to Carbonite Packs

In Carbonite packs, regular foil cards will also disappear, but more Hyperspace and Hyperspace-foil will be included in each pack — including multiple Hyperspace cards per opening and a higher number of Hyperspace-foils (from 2 to 6).

Additionally, some Prestige cards will become even rarer: most serialized cards will remain at 250 copies worldwide, but some subsets will be printed in only 100 or even 50 copies. This will make them among the rarest cards ever in Star Wars: Unlimited.

Finally, the chance of Showcase leaders in Carbonite packs will be reduced to make them special again, while the Showcase chance in regular boosters remains unchanged.

Look Ahead

A final piece of feedback that the developers couldn't immediately address before A Lawless Time is that opening a base in the rare slot of a booster sometimes feels disappointing. They are working on adjusting this in future sets (so that bases with special abilities, for example, appear in the base slot), but that is something for later.

Summary

With A Lawless Time, the way you open booster packs changes in a few significant ways:

  • No more foil cards with black borders,

  • Always at least one Hyperspace and one Hyperspace foil in each pack,

  • Prestige cards can now also be found in regular boosters,

  • Carbonite packs will feature more Hyperspace variants and even rarer Prestige cards.

These adjustments are intended to make opening cards more fun and exciting for more players, regardless of how many packs you buy.
