Star Wars: Unlimited — Secrets of Power

A deep dive into the new expansion set of the Star Wars: Unlimited card game

After a spectacular second year of Star Wars: Unlimited, featuring sets like Jump to Lightspeed (with its epic space battles) and Legends of the Force (focusing on Jedi, Sith, and the Force as central themes), it's time for something completely different. Instead of lightsabers and space battles, the new set Secrets of Power focuses on intrigue, politics, secret plans, and gaining influence in the shadows of power.

This set invites players to outsmart their opponents — not only through brute force but by carefully planning, bluffing, and manipulating information. This is precisely what makes this expansion so distinctive within the game.

The Theme of Secrets of Power

In Secrets of Power, the focus shifts from direct confrontations to strategic dominance and secret maneuvering. Players build decks that revolve around managing their cards, anticipating their opponent's plans, and protecting their own information — because knowledge is power.

Where previous sets placed players on the battlefield with powerful units and grand events, this expansion emphasizes backroom politics, espionage, and gaining an advantage through strategy rather than brute strength.

New Gameplay Elements

The new keyword: Plot

The biggest mechanical innovations in Secrets of Power begin with the new keyword Plot. This works differently than previous mechanics: you can play Plot cards that you have placed in your resource zone exactly when you deploy your leader — but only then. You always pay the normal cost of the card, and then you replace the Plot card with the top card of your deck.

The special thing about Plot is that, as long as you have enough resources, you can play multiple Plot cards at once as soon as your leader enters the battlefield. This gives players the chance for enormously explosive moves that can suddenly turn the game around.

The new mechanic: Disclose

While Plot revolves around hidden plans, Disclose is about the strategic revealing of information from your hand. Some cards require you to reveal specific aspect icons (such as Command or Heroism) to activate certain benefits.

For example: a unit asks you to reveal a Command and a Heroism icon. You can do this by showing two cards that each contain one of those icons, or by showing one card that has both. The clever use of Disclose therefore requires good hand management and timing — because your opponent can see what you have in your hand and can anticipate accordingly.

Spy Tokens — New token units

Secrets of Power also introduces Spy tokens: seemingly innocent token units with the Raid 2 keyword and the Official trait, making them much more effective than they initially appear. They can deal damage to an enemy base faster than you would expect.

Spotlight Deck Leaders

The set includes two new Spotlight Decks with leaders that showcase the new mechanics.

Chancellor Palpatine

Chancellor Palpatine is a leader with Vigilance and Villainy built entirely around the Plot mechanic. His abilities are designed to execute sudden massive strategic moves as soon as he is deployed.

Palpatine's playstyle revolves around gathering enough resources to play multiple Plot cards simultaneously, overwhelming your opponent. His pre-built deck contains various cards that assist in this — such as units that hold back and tokens that apply pressure — as well as events that provide you with a large number of Spy tokens to bolster your strategy.

An example of this is the card “I Am the Senate,” which generates up to five Spy tokens, each having an impact on the board and your opponent's plans.

Padmé Amidala

On the other side of the theme is Padmé Amidala, a leader with Cunning and Heroism that focuses on smartly utilizing Disclose.

Padmé’s abilities deal damage to your opponent every time you reveal or discard cards. By carefully planning when and which cards to reveal, you can gradually force control over the game — especially when combined with cards that reward discarding cards.

The Disclose system comes into its own here: it requires you to balance knowledge, risk, and timing — as each revealed card can bring you closer to victory… but also give away information to your opponent.

About the set

Secrets of Power contains more than 260 new cards, which together create a dynamic and challenging playing field where bluffing, timing, and depth are central.

This set offers players a completely new way to approach the game — less focused on brute strength, more on psychological warfare, planning, and control over what your opponent knows or doesn't know.

The theme also aligns with the expansive Star Wars universe: politicians, spies, infiltrators, and double agents prominently feature in the cards and mechanics, giving you the feeling of being in the midst of a shadowy struggle for power.

Release

Secrets of Power will officially be released in November 2025. From that moment, players can dive into a world of intrigue, secret plans, and masterful strategic moves — featuring all the new cards and mechanics that this set has to offer.
